Amulet

Savannah, GA — January 2026

During Studio One at SCAD I designed and fabricated an amulet exploring ocean pollution and its impact on marine life. The central motif is a bronze turtle cast using a sand-casting technique. I contrasted that solid bronze with a brass form produced on a hydraulic press to create a distorted, constricting shape that evokes suffocation and entanglement.

I employed hollow-form techniques to introduce depth and volume, mounting the turtle on a sheet of metal set into the center of a circular pendant. The reverse features a die-pressed plate embossed with my personal logo, integrating signature and structure. Finally, I added decorative wirework and applied patina treatments to enhance contrast and create a dramatic, weathered surface that reinforces the piece’s environmental narrative.
