Emergence Hand Rendering

Savannah, GA — October 2026

A hand-rendered sculptural ring illustrated using watercolor and colored pencils, featuring two Blue Dragon sea slugs flowing along a rippling ring band. Pavé-set aquamarine gemstones and a prong-set marquise emerald accentuate the organic movement of the design, leading toward a prominent emerald-cut emerald secured in prongs.

The ring explores the delicate balance between beauty and danger found in the Blue Dragon sea slug. These fascinating creatures drift along the ocean's surface in warm waters, preying on venomous Portuguese man-of-wars. By storing the stinging cells of their prey, they transform this defense mechanism into their own protection. This dangerous yet captivating quality is symbolized through the vibrant emerald gemstones. However, their toxicity also introduces a sense of vulnerability, as these creatures must navigate reproduction without harming their mates. The design captures this contrast between beauty and danger, intimacy and self-preservation, translating the sea slug's extraordinary biology into a sculptural piece of wearable art.
